Catching an outdoor movie during the summer has become a tradition in Raleigh and the greater Triangle area.

Many of our area's homes for sale are in the midst of a thriving cinema scene, and outdoor theaters are one of the exciting surprises that make living in the Triangle special.

With National Picnic Month in July, it's a perfect time to visit them.

You'll find the Triangle's great cities are dotted with municipal parks. Not only that, but a number of state parks and other preserved areas are waiting for you. You can stay close to your neighborhood or make a day of it in a forest glen or mountainous vista.

Let's look at some of the best places to picnic all throughout the Triangle:

1. Pullen Park – 520 Ashe Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27606
   In Raleigh, you'll happen upon beautiful Pullen Park, established in 1887. Sprawling across 66 acres, Pullen is known for being the first public park in North Carolina. It includes a carousel, mini-train, aquatic center, arts center, and cafe. There are plenty of shelters to shield you from the sun during your picnic. 2. William B. Umstead State Park – North Harrison Avenue (at I-40 270), Cary, NC 27513
