6 Food Banks in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill

September 6 is National Food Bank Day

Our area's residents show compassion and generosity in helping to eliminate the problems of hunger and homelessness in their communities. Friday, September 6 has been designated National Food Bank Day, so our REALTORS® have compiled a list of top food banks in the area that will gratefully accept donations.

  1. Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina - 1924 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27604
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is located within convenient distance of Raleigh homes for sale, but its reach extends across 10 counties throughout the region. More than 270 partner agencies, such as soup kitchens, senior centers, and homeless centers, receive and distribute upwards of 27 million pounds of goods and supplies from the Food Bank. Donations of non-perishable items, sealed refrigerated or frozen products and produce are accepted, as well as household essentials like hygiene and cleaning products. The Food Bank is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  2. Women's Center of Wake County - 112 Cox Ave., Raleigh, NC 27605

Sandwich items, individually wrapped snacks, bottled beverages, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies are always needed. Donations are accepted weekdays from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  3. Urban Ministries of Durham - 410 Liberty St., Durham, NC 27701

The Urban Ministries of Durham carries on their overall mission to end homelessness and fight poverty in the community. In addition to a food pantry, UMD operates a café that serves three meals a day, 365 days a year to shelter resident and others suffering from hunger. While viewing Durham homes for sale, drop off a donation of non-perishable food items (standard size for the pantry, commercial size or bulk for the café) between 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday.

  4. Salvation Army - 909 Liberty St., Durham, NC 27701

HPW Open Houses | August 10 - 11

Attention home buyers – this is THE weekend for you to find your new home and we're ready to help.

Our in-the-know real estate agents will be hosting open houses this Saturday and Sunday in nearly every corner of this prospering Triangle region and Goldsboro, too. It's time to map out a plan to make the most of this weekend.

Open House Tips For Buyers

It doesn't matter if you're entering the second month of your house hunt or are just getting started, you're going to want to make the most of your open house visits.

Do Some Digging

Power up your computer or charge up your Smart Phone and start "digging" for information on the homes you plan to visit. Access a home valuation estimate on our HPW.com website to review a comprehensive report with property details, recent area sales, and more useful information for each of the homes you like.

Take Your Time

Give yourself ample time to tour the homes you visit. Walkthrough each home with the onsite agent and then go back through on your own. Take time to step into the backyard or stroll down the street. Buying a home is a big deal, and you're going to want to gather every detail possible to make an educated decision.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Attending an open house is exciting, especially when you think the home may be perfect for you and your family. Do your best to remain cool, calm, and collected as you take your tour to ensure you see the home as it really is, without the rose-colored lenses.
