Here are a few you'll want to check out.
Capitol Area Historic District
Located right in the center of Raleigh, the Capitol Area Historic District is home to the Capitol building, the State Supreme Court, and two churches that date back to the mid-19th century.
You'll also find numerous historic monuments and Haywood Hall, the oldest house in Raleigh. It was built in 1799 and features stunning gardens that make it a popular spot for weddings and events.
Boylan Heights
One of Raleigh's oldest suburban areas, today, it's just at the edge of Raleigh's downtown. This hilly, wooded area features a variety of lovely old homes, many of which have been revitalized and are now single-family residences.
Moore Square Historic District
While you won't find any houses in the Moore Square Historic District, but it is home to two beautiful parks that have been a part of the city since 1792. It's also the location of the city's giant copper acorn, a half-ton sculpture in the park that makes for a great photo-opp. While you're there, make sure you rub it for good luck!
The area is also home to City Market, which was originally established in 1914. In the 1920s, it was knowns as "Black Main Street." Today, revitalization efforts have resulted in a redevelopment of City Market and a return to activity in the district.
Oakwood Historic District
In the post-Civil War era, Oakwood was created as a rural neighborhood that was quite a hike into town. Today, it's essentially in Raleigh's downtown. However, many of the area's Victorian-style homes still look how they did back then.
Although the homes were neglected for some time, the area underwent a restoration in the 1970s. It became Raleigh's first designated historic district in 1947. Today it's one of the area's loveliest neighborhoods.
Five Points Neighborhoods
Another interesting and eclectic area, the Five Points Neighborhoods, is a short drive from downtown, conveniently located near the interstate, and is well-known for its block of great restaurants and bars.
It was developed in the 1920s as a series of planned communities designed to give residents a break from the hectic urban life. The Five Points area comprises several neighborhoods, including Vanguard Park, Bloomsbury, Roanoke Park, and Hayes Barton, which was once considered one of the area's most desirable neighborhoods.
Today, Five Points is very popular among young, first-time homebuyers. The housing styles here vary greatly, from 1920s bungalow-style houses to larger, more ornate homes. This hodge-podge of home sizes and styles only serves to make the area even more unique.

When you hear the words "historic home" you tend to think old, like maybe it was built in the early 1900s or even the late 1800s. The Bellewood Estate at 2200 Oxford Rd in Henderson was built in 1760. That means this home has stood through the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, four different centuries and predates both electricity and the telephone.
Sitting on almost 10 acres of land, this historic estate will greet you with a gated entry, a circular driveway and every ounce of historic charm you would ever want along with all of the modern amenities we've come to love and expect.
Five bedrooms and five bathrooms are included in the nearly 4,600 square foot farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and renovated by the current owners. Those looking for that piece of history need not worry though – the aspects of this home that make it truly unique have been preserved and can be seen in the details. Take for instance the fireplace in the master bath or the grandeur staircase in the foyer or how about the bookcase that is a secret door in the third floor study.
The main house is accompanied by a separate apartment, six stall barn and a pool house for the heated, saltwater pool.
